The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has been in effect since the landmark federal civil rights legislation was passed in the 1990s. After over 20 years in the making, the U.S. Access Board recently published Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way (PROWAG), which consists of guidelines informing federal, state, and local government agencies on how to make sidewalks, streets, crosswalks, curb ramps, pedestrian signals and other pedestrian facilities accessible for people with disabilities. The New Jersey Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Council (BPAC) will host a special presentation at 9:30am during their March 20th meeting, featuring national expert Jeremy Chrzan from Toole Design Group. He will discuss how PROWAG design guidelines will make our communities safer and more accessible. This meeting is free and open to all.
