TerraCycle Honored with 2025 Sustainable Business Leadership Award from Sustainable Jersey
on Nov 19, 2025
Sustainable Jersey presented TerraCycle with the 2025 Sustainable Business Leadership Award, recognizing the company’s outstanding commitment to the core sustainability principles of people, planet, and prosperity, as well as its strong support for the values that Sustainable Jersey promotes. The award was presented at the Sustainable Jersey Annual Luncheon during the New Jersey League of Municipalities Conference in Atlantic City.
For more than two decades, TerraCycle has pioneered groundbreaking platforms in recycling, recycled materials, and reuse, all as part of its mission to eliminate waste and tackle today’s most complex waste challenges. The company remains at the forefront of recycling innovation, developing new ways to collect and process materials that are not typically recycled through curbside services. TerraCycle’s in-house team of scientists and materials specialists continues to push the boundaries of what can be recycled, driving the transition from a linear to a circular economy.
While TerraCycle has a global reach, the company remains proudly local at heart, headquartered in Trenton, New Jersey. “Sustainable progress happens when innovation meets community,” said Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of TerraCycle. “This recognition reflects the work that begins here in New Jersey and extends across 18 countries — designing practical recycling solutions that reduce waste, preserve resources, and deliver measurable impact in the communities we serve worldwide.”
At TerraCycle, the mission is simple: eliminate waste. The company works with businesses, government entities, green teams, and other community groups, and individuals to keep trash out of landfills and away from incineration. Through collaboration and innovation, TerraCycle has developed comprehensive solutions spanning recycling, reuse, and beyond.
“TerraCycle empowers municipalities and schools to be environmental champions in their local communities,” said Randall Solomon, executive director of Sustainable Jersey. “It is a company that uses the power of recycling to create an environmental solution. Their circular business model, free recycling programs, and rewards program make them incredibly successful at reducing waste in an innovative way. They also support Sustainable Jersey Green Teams by providing free recycling programs for hard-to-recycle items in schools and municipalities, helping communities make a tangible difference. Aligned with Sustainable Jersey’s mission, TerraCycle exemplifies how a company can take sustainability seriously while contributing locally to improving quality of life in New Jersey.”
