Sustainable Jersey Energy Grants Cycle
The Gardinier Environmental Fund is contributing $150,000 to support a Sustainable Jersey Grants Program cycle for municipal governments and public school districts that is focused on supporting energy projects and programs.
The Sustainable Jersey Grants Program is an important benefit for New Jersey municipalities and school districts participating in the Sustainable Jersey certification programs. Funding supports efforts to implement projects that help towns and schools gain points needed for Sustainable Jersey certification and make progress toward a sustainable future.
This cycle will award grants in the amount of:
The number of grants in each category will be based on the relative strength of application proposals received. We reserve the right to not give grants in any specific category. Please note that funding for grant proposals at the higher levels is more competitive.
Applicants may only submit ONE grant application. The application can be for any of the listed grant amounts.
An informational webinar will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 1:00pm-2:30pm. The webinar will provide an overview of the available funding, discuss eligible project ideas, explain the available energy incentive programs, demonstrate how to use the new application portal, go over the application components, and will conclude with a Q&A session.
To be eligible for a grant in this cycle, the following requirements must be met:
- The applicant must be a New Jersey municipality or public school district.
- The applicant must be registered or certified in its respective Sustainable Jersey Program and have an appointed municipal or school green team.
All applications must be submitted using the link below. In order to apply, an applicant must first sign up for an account and then complete the application. This is true for both NEW and PREVIOUS Sustainable Jersey grant applicants, except those who have applied in the 2021 PSEG cycles. Please note this account is different from the one used to access your certification application.
Sustainable Jersey has transitioned to new grants management platform. To learn more about using the new online grant application visit the Online Application Portal Instructions page. Email submissions of grant proposals will not be accepted.
Make sure to record the email address and password for the application. Grant recipients will need that information to log into the system to complete reporting requirements.
Online Application Deadline: Friday, November 5, 2021 at 11:59pm
Grant Recipients will be announced in mid-January 2022
For more information about what is required for each of the different application sections, click here. The energy grant application is comprised of four sections:
1. Energy Grant Proposal
2. Sustainable Jersey Program Status
3. Confirmation of Eligibility for Applicable Energy Incentive Programs
4. Grant Authorization Documentation
The first three sections must be completed by the November 5 deadline. The fourth section does not need to be completed until December 3, 2021. Despite the extended deadline, it is recommended that you get the grant resolution adoption process started as soon as possible in order to ensure that the resolution is passed in time for your application to be considered.
For more information about how your grant proposal will be evaluated, click here. Always make sure to carefully review the evaluation criteria, as this is what the selection committee bases their application reviews on.
Successful grant applications often represent innovative projects underway throughout the state, and can act as a model and generate ideas for other municipalities. Review the Application Tips page for guidance on general grant application requirements to strengthen your proposal.
