Grants and Resources
In an effort to promote sustainability, education, and public/private partnerships, Walmart Stores Inc. and the New Jersey League of Municipalities’ Education Foundation, and the NJLM Mayors’ Committee for a Green Future (MCGF) established the Sustainable Jersey Small Grants Program. This is the third year that Walmart has funded the grants program, bringing their total contribution over three years to $595,000.
In 2011, $175,000 was awarded through the Sustainable Jersey® Small Grants program funded by Walmart. Thirty-two local governments accepted green grants for sustainability projects at the Annual Sustainable Jersey Awards luncheon on November 15, 2011 at the New Jersey State League of Municipalities’ conference in Atlantic City. This is the third year that Walmart has funded the grants program, bringing their total contribution to $595,000.
The grants are intended to support New Jersey municipalities participating in the Sustainable Jersey Certification Program to institute greening and sustainability initiatives within their communities and better the quality of life for their residents. Grants will be awarded to both certified and registered communities to fund worthy projects. Municipalities seeking to be eligible for these grants should be registered with the Sustainable Jersey program before the application deadline.
