Priority actions can be stumbling block for towns on the way to certification - but they don't have to be! To earn certification two priority actions are required for bronze and three for silver. Whether you are currently in the 2019 certification cycle, or planning to apply in the future, this webinar will provide insight into the 12 priority actions, typical reasons why they are not approved, and how to overcome them. Sample documentation from approved towns will be provided to help make sure your submission qualifies for points.
October 29, 2019 - 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
This webinar will familiarize municipalities and green teams on the Sustainable Jersey brownfields actions and provide information on the beneficial reuse of blighted or abandoned properties that are potentially contaminated. These properties, also known as "brownfields" can be repurposed for community health and safety and economic revitalization. Repurposing a brownfield site takes advantage of existing infrastructure and transit and reduces pressure on undeveloped or "greenfields" properties. A redevelopment roadmap will be provided that parallels the three brownfield actions: Inventory and Prioritization; Marketing; and Reuse Planning. Presenters include: Jean Hamerman, Deputy Director, The Creative Center for Land Recycling; Bill Lindner, Manager, Office of Brownfield Reuse, Site Remediation and Waste Management Program, NJDEP; Leah Yasenchak, Principal, BRS, Inc.; and JR Capasso, Brownfields Coordinator, Division of Economic Development, Department of Housing & Economic Development, Trenton City.
