2018 NJDEP Protection Recycling Award: Leadership

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) honored Sustainable Jersey for its leadership in recycling for supporting communities as they pursue sustainability initiatives including recycling programs and creating a "Gold Standard" for the Municipal Waste Management action area.  Read more here.

 


2017 Governor's Environmental Excellence Award

The Christie Administration honored Sustainable Jersey for its leadership in protecting and improving the environment.  Sustainable Jersey received the Governor's Environmental Excellence Award for the Healthy and Sustainable Communities category.  These awards are the premier environmental awards program for recognizing outstanding environmental performance, programs and projects in the state.  The awards program is sponsored by DEP, New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust and the New Jersey Corporation for Advanced Technology, in partnership with the New Jersey League of Municipalities.  Read more about the award here.


2017 American Planning Association Excellence in Planning

Sustainable Jersey is one of multiple partner organizations to receive an Excellence in Planning Award in Outstanding Community Engagement for work done on the project Building Ecological Solutions to Coastal Community Hazards.  The award was given by the American Planning Association - NJ Chapter in October, 2017. Sustainable Jersey's role included the facilitation of coastal vulnerability assessments in ten municipalities, and as technical team member to help communities identify ecological based strategies to mitigate coastal flooding. The project was administered by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Office of Coastal and Land Use Planning.


2016 American Planning Association Leadership Award

The American Planning Association's Sustainable Communities Division (SCD) announced the third annual Awards for Excellence in Sustainability at the National Planning Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.  Sustainable Jersey received the Leadership in Sustainability award and was selected from a group of national and international applicants.  The awards honor project, plans, policies, individuals, and organizations whose work is dedicated to supporting and growing sustainable communities.  Read more about the award here


2015 American Planning Assocation NJ Leadership Award

On January 29, the New Jersey Chapter of the American  Planning  Association (APA-NJ) awarded Sustainable Jersey a 2015 Leadership Award. The Distinguished Civic Leadership  Award was given to the  Sustainable Jersey program recognizing the leadership of the co- directors, Randall Solomon and Donna Drewes. The award was  presented by Charles Latini Jr., president of the APA-NJ chapter at the  organization’s annual conference at the Hyatt Regency in New  Brunswick. Read more about the award here.


2012 Economic Development Association of New Jersey Sustainability Award

The Economic Development Association of New Jersey (EDANJ) selected Sustainable Jersey as the recipient of the 2012 Sustainability Award. “Like EDANJ, Sustainable Jersey works with diverse stakeholders to promote public-private collaborations that will enhance New Jersey’s economy,” said Adam Farrah, President-Elect of EDANJ and Vice President of UCEDC. “We are proud to recognize Sustainable Jersey’s consensus oriented, science-based, politically relevant effort to align the interest and resources of all actors from state and local, to public and private, for the common purpose of achieving a sustainable New Jersey and world.”


2011 U.S. EPA Environmental Quality Award

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded Sustainable Jersey a 2011 Environmental Quality Award. The award, given to those who demonstrate outstanding achievement in protecting the environment, was presented by EPA Regional Administrator Judith Enck and Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez at an awards ceremony in New York City on Friday, April 29, 2011. The award is the highest recognition presented to the public by the EPA.


National Strong Communities Competition Winner

Amidst fierce competition, Sustainable Jersey triumphed as one of three winners of the national Ashoka/Community Matters Changemakers competition, “Strong Communities: Engaging Citizens, Strengthening Place, Inspiring Change.” Sustainable Jersey received $5,000 and recognition as a top social change innovation in the country. The Strong Communities competition was designed to identify innovative projects and ideas that engage citizens to steer change and build strong communities across the United States and Canada. Sustainable Jersey was selected from 260 entrants in the competition.  Read more about the award here.


2010 New Jersey Senate and General Assembly New Jersey Joint Legislative Resolution

On November 23, 2010, Sustainable Jersey received a joint legislative resolution and a resounding round of applause at the New Jersey Assembly voting session for its role in leading over half of the Garden State’s towns and cities toward becoming more sustainable through its certification program. “Sustainable Jersey is a unique and innovative partnership between municipalities, state agencies and community organizations that has prompted 315 of the Garden State’s towns and cities to apply to become certified as sustainable by reducing waste, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and improving environmental equity," said Assemblywoman Mila M. Jasey (D-Essex). "It is an amazing accomplishment and exactly the kind of initiative we need for grassroots-level mobilization to protect and preserve our environment.”
